I'd say go for it! The worst case scenario is you trade in your iPhone and decide you want to switch back. As for the TV is there really a need to get rid of it? It's not like there is an big Android centric alternative, and if you hold on to the iPad those two can still interact right? Otherwise try the secondhand market. I'm sure you could sell it on eBay or Amazon if you are so inclined.

I'm considering picking up a roku as well so I can access amazon and the difference apps that aren't on Apple tv. But maybe that's overkill?

Nope, if you don't have a PS3/4 or Xbox 360/One then that would be awesome. Gets you Netflix and some other great apps

Actually, I do own a ps4, so a Roku might not be super necessary. I don't do plex or anything.

I own a nexus 7 and can get apps on that, but that means I probaly shouldn't being buying apps on iOS anymore.

Then I don't see the need for it. Roku is a way to get Netflix on your TV for people who don't want to buy a console for it or don''t have a smart TV. The PS4 already has that...

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm 100 percent commuted to switch. I like iOS, I like the games , and it's battery life and responsiveness. On my nexus 7, I still get weird in responsiveness.

It's just that I'm finding a more open source syestem appealing.

But no decision is going to be perfect I think. For the time being I might just stick with iOS and see where it goes. I still have my nexus 7 for android

I don't think you're too entrenched at all. I had iPhone 5, iPad 2, Apple TV, several radios with iPhone docks and easily made the switch. Still have everything save for the iPhone and can still use most of the docks using this bluetooth receiver that I got for 10 bucks from Groupon. Just place it on the male 30-pin dock connector and go. I like both OS's honestly and I occasionally miss being able to carry on a group conversation effectively with my wife and in laws via iMessage but it's more about what device I want to use. Now that Androids have come a very long way in terms of battery life, making the switch was as easy as can be.

Ignoring the bill payments issues, , there is certainly some inertia in both cost of new software and overhead in learning new things to switching systems. I've always been on Windows for instance for a desktop. My next computer will be 8.1. Most of my software will run on it, simply put.There would be no possibility whatsoever of switching to Apple. Not going to happen. Too many issues. It no longer matters whether Windows was originally the best choice. It is now the choice that makes sense and saves me hundreds of dollars in new software issues, etc.

But Android is far more versatile than Apple. I just hate the thought of being trapped in the Apple eco-system. If, for instance, HTC doesn't want to support SD cards, I buy a Samsung. I can always find someone making an Android phone who does what I want.

It just seems like it'll be such a long time before I could get a android phone considering the car repairs (which will be around 500 dollars I think, maybe more) and whether or not I fully pay off the 544 dollars remaining on the iPhone 5S before I get the nexus 5.

Or maybe it won't be THAT far away if I just manage my spending a bit.

I have a iPhone 5S, a iPad 4, And a apple TV which I purchased a few weeks ago.

But I'm honestly just bored with iOS. It's not that there bad products, they just don't do enough for me. But I'm worried that I'm too entrenched in apple to even switch.

I own about a dozen games on iOS, but don't really play many of them anymore, and the only apps I use daily are fantastical and tweetbot.

The other ones are on android.

I know I can always sell the iPhone and iPad, but theres not much I can do with the apple TV. I can't even return it. Don't have the receipt or box anymore.

Is the best thing to do is save for a nexus 5 and then sell the iPhone? I want to keep the iPad as my big tablet just so I can at least still play my games, apps, and do airplay.

If you are that bored with iOS, then yeah, cut the cord now. It won't get any easier the longer you wait. The only reason to go with iOS is 1) if you don't care about what it can't do (and a lot of people don't), and 2) if you have deep pockets. Because Apple is expensive.

On the plus side, Apple products hold their value very well. So you should be able to get good money for them. You could probably even craigslist that Apple TV and get decent money for it.

It is going to be awkward to live in both worlds IMO...you can't cross pollinate the apps or a lot of the peripherals. If it was me I'd dump the iPad too.

I don't have any issue. Early on I longed for the back button on my iPad but I've settled in and it's a nice change of pace.

I agree with JeffDenver, the way to get the most out of an OS is to be as involved in the ecosystem as possible so having all your devices be one platform or another is the way to go; and right now is a great time to be on the Android side
