AC Question

I just purchased a Samsung Chromebook Pro. So far, it's been a great device. The only major issue I am having is with the Amazon Prime Video app. When I try to stream a video, it's slow and laggy. I tried downloading a video thinking that would resolve the issue. It didn't. Even downloaded videos do not play back very well. There is too much stopping and playing to watch anything.

Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have a fix?

I purchased the Pro to use as a travel device. If I can't use the Amazon Prime Video app, then I might just return it and try some other device.

Thanks!

Same problem on an Asus C302CA flipbook. I'll bet the problem is the application is not optimized for Intel processors.

Other apps like Netflix work fine.

I have the same issue on Chromebook Pro. The problem is lessened the lower you go in video quality. In Datasaver quality, the streaming pauses only happen now and then. With Good quality it is ok, but the pauses happen a lot more often.

This is true of both streaming or if the video is downloaded.

Cheers.

The Amazon app is not supported on the ChromeBook. I have the same Samsung Pro and I emailed Amazon. This is what they told me on Oct 28 2017:

"I understand that you would like to stream Amazon video content on Samsung Chromebook Pro.

I regret to inform you that at this time, we don’t offer streaming or downloading of Amazon Video titles on Samsung Chromebook Pro. We're continually listening to our customers and expanding our support for additional devices.

I am sorry for the disappointment this may cause to you.

For other ways to watch Amazon Video, please go to the Help page:

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I have read on other forums that if you enter your ChromeBook into developer mode (requires a wipe and reset of device) then you can toggle the "install apps from unknown sources" under the play store android system preferences. After that you can install Amazon Underground which allows you to install the Video app. I haven't tried this.

I am on the Beta channel - (turn it on under settings -> about chrome os -> detailed build info -> change channel to beta - and I am able to watch directly from the web browser. Load in Amazon.com then click Amazon Video under the menu.

So I guess you can try developer mode and sideloading Amazon Underground/Video which I still don't know if it will work, or you can use the web browser which isn't the slickest solution but that's what works out of the box (you might need beta, dunno.)

Re: Amazon Prime Video App on Google Pixelbook Chromebook

The Google Pixelbook Chromebook can run Android applications. The Amazon Prime player is an Android Application.

I've the same 'stuttering and lag' problem at the 'Data Saver' lowest resolution, but it only happens with some videos. Others are fine. All files are downloaded, not streaming. No other apps running. No browser running.

For example, watching the TV series 'Trapped', Episode 6 plays fine on the Pixelbook/Chromebook but Episode 7 stutters. There is plenty of memory and it's an I5 processor. I speculate that there is a parameter in the app, some sort of buffer size maybe, that just needs to be tweaked to fix this. I hope it is just a matter of time until Amazon prioritizes this and fixes it.

I just tried this for the first time today, downloaded the Prime Video app on my new Chromebook Pro, and then downloaded episodes of the Grand Tour. Went to play them on a plane and they don't work. Pity...

The Android tablet app is still unavailable for the Asus Chromebook Flip, but streaming from the website works fine. Just can't watch offline. Sigh.

Hopefully the app will get updated soon.
