So I'm new to Samsung phones and yesterday I had an amber alert go off and it scared the crap out of me. The phone started screaming and I couldnt figure out how to turn it off, I was at work and all embarrassed lol. Needless to say I found the setting to turn off the sound notification for amber alerts really quick lol..

I've had that happen to me in the past. Worse that I'm on a military base and the amber alert & post alert sounds are similar. Needless to say i freaked lol

Had my husband's and mine go off yesterday afternoon regarding an amber alert in tx. I like getting the alerts, being a parent and all, but does anyone know why it will send you the same alert three times with no change in content?

Edit: it says update, but when you open the message the content is exactly the same, with no update.

LOL If I was ur co-worker, I'd be laughing with u...I love things like that

Why does your phone receive amber alerts? Is that from some App?

Evidently it's carrier based ?, I'm with Sprint. I used to get them on my EVO 3D but they did not make a siren type noise on that device lol..

I'm going top call and see if there is a way to opt out of that crap.

Never got them on my iPhone.

I'm thinking its not AT&T.

From AT&T technical support:

Must opt out.

Use to be called Wireless AMBER Alerts. Since replaced by this organization:

More info on Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) program
About Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) - AT&T Wireless Support*

Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)
Below is a list of top tier carriers.

No info in our manual that I could find.

AT&T gave me old information on opting out.

Think I'll go by the AT&T store for grins and see what they know.

I had the same alerts that Jennifer mentioned. I'm not sure how many times it went off. I did go off every time I restarted the phone yesterday.

I never had the alerts on an iphone.

I wasn't sure if this was an android only type thing.

I can disable them if I want, but I like knowing what is going on around me so I keep them enabled. I just don't see why it went off three times when I have it checked to go off once. So there were three identical but "updated" alerts. Anywho, I know its different for different phones but I can disable them by going to my messaging app>settings>emergency alerts> recieve emergency alerts> uncheck the ones I don't want.
