Android 10 and 3a- Can't change Bluetooth audio codec

Anyone else with a 3a / 3a XL on Android 10 having this issue? I am using Sony LDAC headphones. In dev settings nothing happens when I change the Bluetooth audio codec from LDAC best effort to 990kbps. It always stays on LDAC best effort despite setting the Sony app to "prefer audio quality". Can't switch to AptX HD. I can't even switch to SBC or AptX if I want to (unless I disable HD audio altogether), nothing happens. It'll just go back to LDAC best effort when I leave the dev settings screen.

I know when a change takes effect because there will be a pause in audio that is playing and I'll see the volume rocker appear on screen. As of now, there is no pause in audio and nothing at all happens, which also tells me nothing in settings is working or changing.

I sent feedback to Google using the app within my phone. Very annoying.

That's all you can do and - if it's a bug in 10 - hope an update fixes it.

Did you get a response from Google?

I just posted over in the 4 forum, exactly the same issue with my 4XL in Jan 2020.

Right now I have no high quality Bluetooth audio as I think that best effort on pixels is actually worse than SBC!
