Android 10: "lock screen" appearance?

Just updated to Android 10.

This post refers to the screen that is part of the "always on display" although prior to 10, I'd only see it if my phone was in motion; there'd be no display otherwise.

But prior to the update, if the phone detected motion (like if I picked it up), it would show a black screen, with white typeface showing the time, weather, battery life, and any notification icons.

Now under the same circumstances, it shows my normal screen background (not the black screen), with perhaps the same information as before, and a lock icon.

I don't want this. I want the prior look, with the black background.

How do I set it back?

I think you need Always On display turned on.

Settings/Display/Advanced/Lock Screen Display. From there you'll see Always On.

Thanks, yes, I will try to edit my original post to reflect the correct term.

But, to clarify, I don't want the "always on display" to always be on.

I would like the turned-off display to be black (which it is), but then when I pick the phone up or there's motion, to see a black background, with the time in relatively big type in white, plus some other details.

Below shows an example of this from the web:

After the upgrade to 10, what I instead see is my default wallpaper instead of the black background. I've "fudged" this for the time being by selecting a solid black as my background for this screen whatever it's called.

But I'd still like the same old look.

Sorry for my problems with terminology.

On that screen I showed you, what does it say under Lock Screen? If it doesn't say "Show all notification content," select that, and choose that option. In fact, you may want to make sure all the settings on your phone match what I have on mine.

I think that feature went bye bye with Android 9 unfortunately. I miss it too, but Google sometimes likes to change things up for the sake of change..... it keeps people interested in the os and keeps things fresh. They'll cycle it back around down the road.

I suspect one reason they might have changed it is because it now takes one step to get into your phone instead of two when you lift it up.

For some reason, though I don't have it looking exactly as it used to, what I have is now good enough for me. I can't even replicate the path taken to get here! So I'll be no help to anyone else I'm afraid.

Thanks for the suggestions offered, and I consider the problem solved.
