Just a heads up that after updating to Android 10, I can no longer send text messages using Android Auto. Nearly 100 people have posted on an Android Auto forum about this problem. I haven't read all of them, but the ones I have looked at appear to be predominantly from users of the Note 9 or S9: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/26362828#
Here is a copy/paste of my post there:
This is with a 2016 Honda Accord EXL, in which Android Auto used to work. Now it will not send any texts at all. Just as the OP says, it will respond to my initial voice command to send a text, "Sure, text Joe Blow, what's the message," but then either: (a) as I start to dictate the message it will interrupt and say, "Internet connection is not strong enough (or not stable) at this time" and end the process; or (b) I will dictate the message, the colored lights linger for a moment on the screen, and then the process ends with no further response. EVERY TIME. I am able to use my phone and send a text just fine, however.
The same thing often happens when trying to place a phone call, but not always. Phone Model: SM-N960U1; Android Build: QP1A.190711.020.N960U1UEU3DTA5; Android Auto version: 5.0.500224-release. After I updated to Android 10, I cleared the cache on my phone. Google maps still largely works with Android Auto, though I sometimes have to repeat the voice command, "Navigate to X."
