It will wipe the apps you downloaded, your contacts, and your text messages. You can sync your contacts with your gmail account and you can use MyBackup to back up your apps and sms/mms.

ok thanks one more question.. am i suppose to download update.zip and put it on my sd card before proceeding with the flash instructions?

I believe if you want to just get the stock EB01 2.2 update you just need to follow the instructions using Odin. The sdcard method is if you use clockwork recovery.. Odin is the simplest way to update your phone no doubt. And if it's just the stock 2.2 update you want without rooting then there is a no better method for you to use than the Odin method.

ok i see what your saying yea i just want the stock 2.2 update so im gonna do the odim method as we speak

Alright just be sure to read and follow the instructions thoroughly and you can't go wrong! If you have any other questions be sure to ask I'd be glad to help as would many others I'm sure :)

awesome thanks for the help! am i suppose to extract the CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 file? or leave it in the .rar format and odin will handle it?

Yeah leave it exactly as it is. Odin does the work for you. All you do is make sure you see that odin recognizes your phone which is explained in the instructions. Press the PDA button and select the file, once selected press start and just wait for it to finish. If all goes correctly it will say complete and at that time it will be safe to unplug from usb put your battery back in and start up your phone. Then do as you please with your new 2.2 fascinate! :)

ok so how what i be able to tell if odin recognized my phone? i just got a message from my comp saying device drivers not sucessfully installed and my phone is on the downloading screen

Ok, you may very well need to download and install the correct samsung drivers for your computer. http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...0058-how-first-time-rooting-walk-through.html is a thread that has a link to the necessary samsung drivers there's the 64 bit and 32 bit version, be sure to download the correct one for your computer. (the links to those drivers are located in post 2) Just install the drivers (with your phone unplugged from the computer) once finished plug your phone back in and proceed from there. That should correct the problem you're having.

*Edit* I am uncertain if you actually need the drivers to do this through Odin, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to install the drivers anyway for any future things you may want to do with your fascinate through your computer.

Now as for Odin there is a box to the far left of the screen, when your phone is connected (battery out of phone, plugged into computer holding down the volume down button until you see the yellow triangle and Downloading) there should be text that appears in the box I just spoke of.. mine for instance says COM5, whatever yours may say, if something does appear, is proof that odin recognizes your phone being connected. Once you have confirmed that proceed with the rest of the steps.

ok now i understand.. if my phone is on the downloading... screen can i just unplug it or do i have to wait for the screen to go black again before i do so?

Are you referring to after you have completed updating to 2.2 or something else, let me know exactly what you mean by that question so I can better answer it.

ok i got my phone on the downloading screen but since odin didnt recognize my phone im gonna try installing the drivers then try it again so i havent downloaded anything i just put in on the download screen to see if odin would recognize it which it did not.. so im asking would it be ok to unplug to download the drivers then try it again or do i have to wait for the screen to go black?

I'm going to give you a link to a post that has pictures and information in regards to what you need to do with odin to flash 2.2 to your phone.. this may help more than the previous links in this thread. Just review the pics and instructions and you should be good to go. Once you get to the part about Odin seeing that your phone is connected if you see something in that box you are connected, if not then you're not connected and you will need to download and install the samsung drivers I linked you to previously. I am unsure if you actually need them, but it's worth a shot right? Here's the link http://forum.androidcentral.com/700182-post12.html

Follow those steps with the visual aid to help guide you, when choosing the file to flash just choose the ebo1 file you downloaded earlier, this should help you with a lot more ease!

As far as I know the screen won't just go black, so yeah go ahead and unplug your phone, install the drivers, once installed start the whole process again. Be sure to use that link I just posted, that should help you a lot better, it has step by step instructions with pictures so you can get a better idea of exactly how it should look, be aware that it won't be word for word the same because you're flashing something different than what the pictures show, but the general idea is the same. :)

*Edit* It wouldn't hurt to try it again once more before downloading and installing the drivers now that I gave you that link. You may of just been mistaken as to knowing for sure if it was or was not actually connected to Odin. as one of the pictures in that post show, you know you have a connection if there is text in the box like the one circled saying "0:[COM6]" Note that yours may be a little different than that, but as long as there is something there when your phone is plugged in and Odin is running then you are connected!

ok awesome thanks alot! that actually explains it more.. im downloading the drivers already so hopefully it works once its done downloading

Awesome, glad I was able to help. I just learned this stuff on my own the other day and everything I needed to know I found right here in these forums, AC is a great place for this sort of thing and there are a lot of very knowledgable people that are more than happy to help with anything and everything you can think of! :)

After the drivers are installed that should take care of pretty much any connection based problem between your phone and computer, so I believe you will be 100% good to go after that. Be sure to reply back and let me know if that worked for you and how the process goes after you complete it. And if you run into any other problems feel free to ask, if I don't know the answer someone else will :)

Oh and don't be afraid to hit the thank button for anyone that helps out :)
