Android 2.3 for mytouch 4G?

Android 2.2.1 is the latest you can have on the myTouch 4G.

The closest you can get to Gingerbread on our phone is Cyanogen Mod.

It's currently only in Alpha, and isn't pretty to flash. I haven't even tried it yet.

I've been running CM7 for a few days now and its completely stable. Everything works perfect.

How was flashing the new clockwork? I've read all the threads over on XDA and have yet to see real clear instructions that I would recommend to n00bs here. I've also read of some people getting stuck with it not being able to revert back to old clockwork.

Admittedly I've been working a lot and haven't been able to keep up with the latest developments so I might be a little behind on where they are at with it. I also usually like to wait until they get to the Beta stage.

Have you tried any of the video chat apps that they recommend against using?

What does it mean when they say "FLASH a custom rom" or "root your mytouch 4g" are these one and the same terms? I'm used to the iphone where you just plug in and one click to jailbreak it. What would be the equivalent of "Jailbreaking" a mytouch 4g? Sorry to ask but I'm new to mt4g and android and I'm not used to these terms.

Rooting is = to jailbreaking,,, jailbreaking is just a nickname they gave it... it basically means getting super user access so that you can change things that were basically left for the developer of the software.

a ROM is Read only memory, meaning it cant be changed. the android OS is a ROM...a custom rom is altered OS.... since you cant change something that is Read only you need to "Flash" a whole new image into the memory chip. so now the original is wiped out and a new rom is installed.

So if I was to root and then flash a custom rom to the mytouch 4g can I still reset everything back to factory or normal just incase one day I'd like to sell the phone, etc?

yes when you use Clockworkmod recovery you can do whats called a Nandroid backup , its basically a copy of your current phone state, you can just recover it from there..and if by some fluke it fails you can always find a stock image online and flash that

You either flash CW3.0 via Fastboot in ADB or you can do it through Terminal which I did and is much easier.

It just means that HTC hasn't released it yet. Given the relative newness of the phone they will, it's just a matter of when.
