Will the G2 be able to run the 2.3 ? I read that the min is 1 GHz processor.

Will over-clocking satisfy this requirement or no need for that?

There is no minimum hardware requirement known for 2.3, that was a bad rumor. All signs say that it probably will.

Yeah, I believe Google posted something about "minimum specs". Then turned around and said that it is only recommended. However the G2 benchmarks higher then most 1ghz phones.

Thanks. What about Android 3, are there min requirements here ? Also, based on Qualcomm's specs, G2's processor max clock is 1 GHz. Does this mean that it will meet such requirements (If they will set some ) in the future even though it's clocked at 800 MHz? I am only asking because I am thinking of getting my first Android phone ( MT4G or G2) and I don't want to lose the option to update my phone in a year or so.

Now that the phone has been rooted you can relax about losing support, guys like Cyanogen will have our back for a while.

But officially we are at least guaranteed Android 2.3, and most likely the one after that (maybe...). Android 3.0 is currently being speculated as Tablet oriented, so who knows the version that will be released for phones after 2.3.

Unfortunately what you are afraid of WILL happen. Since the myTouch and G2 released pretty close, I imagine they will lose support around the same time, and it's that way for ALL phones. Eventually the carrier will stop caring and move on to their next hardware generation, and that will be long before you stop caring. Thankfully the Android community is blessed with wonderful devs who help keep our devices up to date long after the carrier shows them the door.

If we didn't, you would lose support way before your next upgrade.
