Android 4.3: Location Services battery drain?

Hey guys,

on my Nexus 4, it seems like the location is checked quite frequently by the phone, even if I'm not using an app that needs location, and even if the screen is off.

I don't want to turn off the Location Services, I just want my location to be obtained when I use Maps, Yelp ou Waze.

Anyway I can do that? I have already turned off location for Facebook and other annoying apps using App Ops. I basically don't want my location to be obtained when the screen is off.

AFAIK there's no way to change frequency of updates, and battery drain is a known flaw in Google's location and Google Now. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Maybe try Tasker? It gives you an ability to do things based on your phone's state, location, battery level etc. The app is not free but it worth the money.
NB: I'm sorry to see Google did nothing regarding it's services eating battery even in new releases.

Thanlks for your answer. Yeah, I do have tasker installed but my phone is not rooted so I don't think I can do much...
