My phone no longer displays a contact's photo when I receive a call. How do I fix this?

Ever since the recent marshmallow update, my phone no longer displays the picture of the stored contact when I receive a call. Respectively, the photo is no longer displayed when dialing. I understand that it is cosmetic, however, this is a feature that I enjoy. I have put a lot of time setting up contact pictures. Also there are multiple instances where several contacts have the same name. In this the contact picture is helpful. What do I need to do to restore this feature?
