AC Question

So, I read online that you no longer need a compatible head unit (car stereo) to use Android Auto v. 2.0. You only need a smartphone and a bluetooth stereo. (Which is f*&^!ing awesome!)
However, when I install and open AA, it clearly states that it will only work with a compatible head unit. I'm confused. I opted NOT to buy a $1000 AA stereo 6 months ago, after already spending $1500 on a Kenwood deck that failed after 2 yrs (cartoys).

I've read tons of posts, and all I can decipher is that maybe my equipment isn't yet compatible...is there a way to get any further info? I'm not seeing a list of compatible phones anywhere...only that it's being "rolled out". ?? How do I know?
Thanks,

Samsung Galaxy S7

Are you POSITIVE you have AA 2.0? Apparently not everyone can download it yet. For example, I still only have version 1.6.281040 available to me on my Nexus 6P running Nougat.
