Android Auto and USB connection

Just picked up a car with Android Auto. It works great when my G6 recognizes it as a USB Accessory. But after a while (sometimes 1 or 2 times, sometimes 7 or 8} my G6 just thinks it's being plugged into a USB charger and Android Auto cannot connect to the phone. My only recourse at that time seems to be rebooting my phone.

Is there some other way to get my G6 to recognize that USB connection as anything other than a USB charger?

Anyone else with Android Auto have this problem?

Thanks
Mike

Android auto isn't quite ready for prime time. It was downright useless on Hyundai minivan I rented.

Connection lost many times sequentially, then will run fine for hours. No idea why. I just unplug and replug and most of time that solves the problem, perhaps only temporarily.... But never had to reboot my phone.

I too have Android Auto, and I know the reason why as mine has done that too... change the cable. That has happened to me with several cheap cables. I found found that Anker aftermarket USB 3.0 cables seem to work pretty good, but YMMV. USBC cables are very picky and sensitive... and also some of them supposedly don't have a 56K resistor in them as they are supposed to per spec.
