Android Auto and using Phone at same time

Can you use say a galaxy note 8 with android auto and use phone while running? say when parked so u dont have to disconnect your phone all the time to use it?

It still locks you out when you're parked. On my S8, I've remapped the Bigsby button to be the recent apps button, so I just press that and then home and it takes me back to my homescreen and I can use the phone like normal. I'm not sure how the note 8 is setup, but you just need to get to the recent apps screen to use your phone.

Do I need to root my note 8 when i get it to do that? , no other ways?

Unlock Button, Home. When Android Auto screen pops up, swipe up from bottom where recent button would normally be. When your nav bar comes up, press recent apps, choose your app, or hit home key to get to your home screen.
