Hello everyone,

I am having huge issues with my phone and Android Auto, after following many tips and advice threads on the internet it has been tracked to my phone being the issue. I tried a relatives Samsung S6 today and that works fine.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and my head unit and phone cannot see each other via USB when connected. My head unit picks up the bluetooth and if I have android auto set to automatically connect when I enter the car my phone detects something as AA boots on my phone.

I have tried 4 different USB leads and even bought two leads that is recommended by Android/Google to work, even my official lead that came with the phone does not work. I had success once after buying another new lead where I could set the phone up and see it on my head unit but it only ever worked that once.

Power being drawn to the phone when plugged to the head unit USB is 250mA at most but Kenwood tell me this is fine as the phone only draws the power it needs at any time. I am on both newest firmware on my phone and my head unit, after a few weeks of tring many things it seems to be the phone.

What are my options here please? It is just over 12 months old and I am based in the UK.

Head unit - Kenwood DMX-7017DABS
Phone - Samsung Galaxy S8

Thanks to anyone who can help, I really need this working :)

Why not just connect them via Bluetooth? Then, if the phone is pretty well charged, and you're not taking a long trip, you don't have to worry about wires. (I never plug the phone into the head unit, just into the accessory socket if it needs it. Different model Kenwood, different phone, but the same connection. [Although my phone does work if I plug it into the head unit, but that was just once, to see if the connection worked.])

Part of the reason for buying this head unit was to have the phones display and control features through the head unit. Google maps, spotify etc all function easier for me and look better through the head unit. I have a multi function steering wheel and operating Android auto through that is something I want too.

Android Auto on the head unit was a key selling point when making this decision.

I understand what you are saying but to be honest there seems to be a fault with my phone and either way I would like to solve it.
