(Android Auto) Radio plays over phone/text since moving to 12

I updated to Android 12 five days ago, and since then, if I initiate a call or a text from Android Auto while the radio is playing, the radio audio doesn't cut off. Other than my own concentration it doesn't detract much from dictating a text. But it's murder having the radio going while I'm on a phone call.

Turning the radio off doesn't work (somehow the radio power button is disabled in my 2018 Honda Accord, when I'm initiating a call). Nor does turning the radio volume down. Only fix is to either ask the caller to call me back, or terminate the call, turn off the radio, and make the call with the radio off.

Anyone else seen this? Fixes?

I hardly ever use the radio while using Android Auto in my Jeep. I'll have to try making a call with the radio on to see if I get the same results.

I tested it this morning and got more information.

This morning anyway, texting worked fine.

If the radio is on though, when I press the microphone button to talk, the radio silences as it should. I'll say "call [contact or number]" and then when the actual call initiates, the radio audio returns, and the car display will say "calling [whomever] on handheld" but all sounds - phone call and radio - are coming through the car's audio and not the phones. Radio cannot be turned off or volume lowered either, using the car radio button/volume.

I think I also saw my car display say that I was making the call "on speaker" - but, again, all audio, including radio that should have been silenced - was through the car.

Another quirk that I noticed last week, but not today, is that if the other party terminates the call, the car display then says I am on a call with - myself (I have a contact for myself in my phone, yes).

And this bizarreness only started when I installed Android 12.

Another update - I played around with the car in a parking lot.

This quirk appears to only happen if I initiate a call with the maps displaying on my car's screen (which is how I normally have it). At least while in Park, when this happens there is a notification on the car screen, bottom right, giving me the option to switch to the car versus the phone, and then switching to the car turns off the radio audio.

If I initiate a call from the main AA menu and the radio is going, the radio silences, the car display shows an option to switch audio to the handset, but things work fine.

Also if I launch a call from outside Android Audio, behavior is fine, with radio silencing.
