Android auto screen format issues! Please help!

I have just installed an after marker head unit in my BMW running android 9, it has a snapdragon 625 and runs prettt quick. Anyway I installed android auto and it runs pretty well. The only issue is on the music, home and phone screens it is not full screen and 1/5th of the right hand side of the screen is just black. I have tried changing the resolution within android auto but have had no look. Can anyone help or have any suggestions? Thanks

Maybe the head unit needs to be updated ?
