Set up Andriod Auto and it works great.
It can Make phone calls and receive texts and navigate and play music
However when I issue the command "Read my Messages" or "Show my Messages" I get the response "There aren't any new messages I read"
I've Allowed all permissions to the app installed and reinstalled app
I've tried switching off Do Not Disturb as I've read that sometimes works. No change
Google Assistant can read my messages aloud outside the Andriod Auto app too
Tried installing Google Hangouts as that sometimes works. No change
Phone is Honor 9 Lite. Tried using the stock Google Messenging app no different
If a SMS comes through while in Android Auto it will come through and read it out. However should SMS be unread and Android Auto is started it won't pick it up
