Android Auto won't start

After a while my nexus 5 was working well in the car showing Android Auto, all of a sudden it stopped and started to show "communication error 7"

Can't say if this is the same issue, but my G4 (which would work perfectly fine since I got my NEX-4100) just suddenly won't work anymore. New cables, anything. I'm thinking maybe an update broke it?

So something magically fixed itself. The next morning, everything worked as expected. Not sure what happened but nothing changed in my car or anything. I didn't even reboot my phone. I had tried completely turning my car off then back on when it happened but that didn't help either.

It's magic! Though this is kind of funny considering how AA is becoming more mainstream in 2016 model cars yet things like this happen. Then again, this is Google. In 2 years, they'll release Google Auto that is incompatible with any existing hardware and only works on iOS for the first four months.

I have the same problem. Phone (Samsung galaxy) was conecting and everything was working fine up until yesterday.
Now I keep getting "communication error 7"

Anyone knows what this might be. I've tried serval different USB cables, but always the same.

I now have a solution to this.

Make sure that your time and date is set correctly on your car. Mine was on GMT (Im on ECT), once that was fixed, the error 7 went away and the car connects fine.

I'm having the same problem on a 2017 Elantra that I've had for less than 4 weeks. It worked fine on Saturday, and on Wednesday I received the "communication error 7". I've tried everything I can think of. I adjusted the clock so it matches my phone. I restarted the phone (multiple times). I uninstalled and reinstalled Android Auto on my phone (three times). I've checked for updates for my phone (Samsung S5). I've tried different cables. Nothing. So incredibly frustrated. If anyone has found any other solutions besides the clock, please reply!

EDIT: As an update, I took the car to the dealership. The tech responded with "What's Android Auto?" Not promising. Then he said their troubleshooting guide said that my phone just wasn't compatible - except that it had worked fine for 3 weeks. They said they'd try to call Hyundai. They called me back the next day asking if I was using brand-specific cables or aftermarket and if I had always had a case on my phone. They said they'd call Hyundai back and get back to me. That was Tuesday. Still nothing.

Osho841 - Isn't that happening automatically? It looks like a bearings task on the Pixel. Also, how would this help this issue? Just curious as I have a similar issue with Avic-8200 and Pixel.

I have the AVIC 8100 and Samsung Galaxy s 7 Edge.. Android auto worked perfect until a week or so ago. I have checked the time, date and time zone and still get this error. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Holy crap....my LG G3 (Verizon) just started doing this TODAY too! I'm on a 4200-NEX.

I havent tried new cables or resetting date/time etc...just restarting phone & car. NO LUCK!

WTF?

I got it working!! I had to uninstall updates to Google Play Services. After I did that, it worked. Clearly, it is a Google problem (in my case anyway). They put out a crappy update.

I actually do not have Google play services installed on my Pixel so back to square one ??????

You must have Google Play Services installed - note this won't show as a mobile app icon but it will be listed in Settings -> Apps and you can check which version you are running from there.

So what is the procedure to uninstall prior versions of this app?

It may be a bit different depending on model of phone:

Settings -> Application Manager -> Google Play Services (puzzle piece icon)

In that window, my display had the three vertical dots (menu) in the right corner. Clicking on that brought up "uninstall update". Click that. Once all of that was done, I restarted my phone, plugged it into the car, and it worked. Of course, now my phone has about 3 alerts telling me I have to update Google Play Services or the maps won't work. However, I tried that via the Android Auto, and it worked fine.

I hope this helps!!

Was having the same "Communication Error 7". My Google Play Services, however, was an older version (9.6.xx I believe). I uninstalled the updates, and the phone forced me to updated Google Play Services in order to open Android Auto. After updating, I'm now at version 10.0.84. Now my HTC One M8 Android Auto works again in my 2016 VW Golf GTI. I hope it stays... very frustrating!

Has anyone had issues with communication error 8?
The error says the cars software didn't pass andriod auto security checks. Make sure the cars date and time are set correctly, and that android auto has been updated.
I've tried changing the cables and setting the time and date. Even reset the car to factory. Not sure what else to try.. thanks.

To avoid error 8, you need to have the same date, time and timezone the same on your phone and your car. Otherwise your car wont be able to verify your phone - which causes the error 8. Also, with timezone, be sure to set the automatic DST timezone in your car (and be sure to double check if the hour is correct). Your issue that AA doesn't work may be actually caused by the fact that your phone and your car think it's in a different timezone and not DST aware.
