Android Central Biased Toward the Iphone?

I've been reading AC for a long time now. And i can't help but notice that the iPhone can do no wrong, and Android no right.

Even with the release of the note 8, which is getting insane praise on Twitter, all AC can do is point out the high price and the location of the fingerprint scanner, and anything else wrong it can find with the phone. However, I haven't really seen ANY of the iPhone's sins highlighted in the past two years. AC didn't even really bash the exclusion of the headphone jack They instead suggested we try it or look into Bluetooth headphones.

It's been like this for the past 2-3 iterations of the iphone; it is always perfect in the eyes of AC. whereas the Android phones are always trying to "catch up" to the iPhone.

Has anyone else noticed this? Am I alone? Can anyone even link me an article where they bashed the iPhone?

I prefer proof, not opinions. Please link me an article.

Personally been on this site for a few years, I've never seen them praising Apple while bashing Android, they rarely mention Apple on this site.

Well always keep in mind that most "reviewers" use IPhone's as their daily drivers in their real lives. They may work for an android site, but they use the iPhone in real life. So no wonder the iPhone rarely gets called out by "professional" reviewers for its many shortcomings. Unfortunately the IPhone is still seen as the "standard" device and everything else is compared to it. Again many reviewers are iPhone users themselves, so obviously the pro iPhone bias exists.

Android Central is not here to bash anything, that's not what the forum is for and is not what we do. Maybe you're thinking about another android forum. All devices have good points and bad points and we discuss those equally. Primary iPhone discussion is left to our sister site, www.iMore.com.

Sry, I lost signal right after posting that URL.

In this article, the AC compares the iphone's face Id to Android's Iris scanner. They made sure to point out that the iris scanner works "as long as your eyes are in the sweet spot."

But in the last paragraph they made sure to say that the iphone's face id, which they admit they've never even tried, clearly blows away the competition. How can they say this?

This sounds like clear bias to me. And it's a regular occurrence on this site.

@PJRed2008 can you explain the words in this article to me then please? You say you don't plan to bash one system and praise another, but while that may not be your intention, your article puts android in a bad light when being compared to something your writer admitted he never tried.

While you're here, I would like to issue the same challenge to you. Can you please post to me a link where AC at least pointed out one of the iphone's shortcomings like they regularly do with android?

Just for the record, I'm in no way saying this site bashes anything. Just that a pro iPhone bias does exist mainly because its the daily driver for so many in and out of the business.

Has it ever occurred to you that the iPhone does some things very well?

BTW...I'd love to see some criticizing of Samsung and the direction they're going with their phones.

@Inders99 the fact that you think the iPhone does things well is irrelevant here, so I won't bother answering you on that matter. this thread is about AC broadcasting Android's flaws and promoting Apple despite theirs.

@sulla1965 I too don't expect them to flat out bash Apple, but I at least want both systems to get the same treatment. I'm glad you see that there's a bias here.

@Oxymoron428, I know exactly what you mean. Just look at the article Phil nickinson wrote about the new iPhone8 and x from an Android user. He still credit Apple for being Apple even with the old features they just added to the iPhone 8. Not to mention everyone rip the pixel for the big chin and bezel but iPhone hasn't changed that look for years and everyone is ok with it. The bias is real.

@bnice Yes! I never understood why the pixel got ridiculed for having a huge bezel when the IPhone's went unnoticed.

I'm so glad you can see it.

I feel like they have been giving the Note 8 more than enough coverage good, bad or otherwise. I'd say overshadowing the v-30 .. but re: the new iPhones, they give credit where credit is due. A11 is no joke. But they've ripped on apple plenty recently too. Failed FaceID live demo... Apple playing catch-up to android features. The bezel thing is expected from Apple and was addressed when it was called out that the 8 was basically a 7S because it was the same exact phone body. But they're addressing this with the X. so they get a pass for trying to change it up.

It's pretty even keeled I'd say.

It isn't that Android can't do it right.. there just have been times where Android has tried things and they just don't work as well. If Apple does them better then they deserve praise.

Personally I'd rather this kind of writing.. I don't want them to be blind and act as if Android is King just because that's our preferred one. I want honest opinions from the writers.

That's the problem, people automatically assume since Apple has it, it's done better. Touch ID failed at launch, Their touch ID is also know to have issues and whenever they release new os it has issues. Yes if it was all about giving credit, give Android credit for pushing the bar the last couple of years and not the lame old excuses of Apple does it better when they finally add a feature or it just works.

They do though -- so that is the part I am lost on. I have never read articles and hear nothing but Android bashing / Apple praise. The few times they talk about iPhones they talk about things they like with Apple / the competition. On Android they do the same thing but usually talk about the bad as well since it is Android Central and they're giving an honest review of said new phone/device.

I mean I guess they could make an iPhone hate article but man I can hear the "Oh look at the fanbois over at AC hating on Apple" posts already. Either way they can't win. I prefer the "Let's look at the other guys and see what they are doing well" posts versus some fanboy looking "hate on something just because it isn't us" type of hate.

Hate and bashing is one thing, bias is another. I agree with the OP on the pro apple bias on the part of many reviewers and sites. Apple gets away with things because reviews don't call apple out on things. "iPhones just work?? is just a ridiculous premise and is a exactly what the OP is likely referring to.
