Android device manager - data/wifi

OK, so after loving this phone for almost 5 months it was knocked from my hand and the display broke. I have the VZW insurance and Assurion has a replacement in transit. I want to wipe my phone before sending it back, which I can use Android Device Manager to do since I have that enabled. My question is my wifi was turned off, and I'm unable to do anything on the touch screen, do I need to wipe it before I setup my new phone and it loses the cellular data connection? I'm thinking so, but wanted to double check
