Android Head unit or Android Auto?

I've been researching several Android Head units, and looking at a couple stereos that support Android Auto. Has anyone tried both? What have the experiences been like? Which one did you ultimately decide on? I use a T-Mobile Note 5. Looking to make a buying decision soon. Thanks for your time.

I know you posted this awhile ago, but I have had both, currently I recommend either Seicane or Dasaita, their newer head units have Android Oreo, an Octacore processor, and 4GB of RAM. They run pretty smoothly

I previously had the Sony XAV-AX100, and Android Auto is nice, but it is too restrictive for my taste.
