Android headunit permissions issues

I have a chinese android headunit I bought for my 4runner called the T9 by Car Trim Home. Its called the T9 and it has been working perfectly for a few years when paired with Headunit Reloaded. Then recently it no longer allowed me to edit app permissions. When I select the permissions option it always jumps me back to the previous page. Under car settings the system update button does nothing. So I did a factory reset and that resolved nothing. When trying to install Headunit Reloaded it cannot get passed the permissions setup. I reached out to the manufacturer and they gave me a link to their "download" page. They told me to download the T10 (newer head unit) update file. Formatted the drive to Fat32, unzipped the rar file, put all the files in the root directory and plugged it into the head unit's usb port. The head unit sees the USB for file transfer, but that is it. Tried to select the same system update button but it still does nothing. Maybe I am doing something wrong with the files. I would love to figure this permissions issue out but honestly if I can just get Headunit Reloaded running I would be forever grateful. Any help from this amazing community would be great. Oh and the headunit is running android 8.1.0

Welcome to AC!
I would check that manufacturer forums if they have one otherwise check XDA forums if they dint have for your particular unit then browse other ones to get a idea
