Android + keyboards

I'm trying to get a bluetooth keyboard (the make is Anker) to work with my HTC One x running Android 4.1.1.

I've managed to pair it in the phone's bluetooth setting, and it's got a tick next to "Input device/use for input". But nothing
happens when I type. I'm thinking maybe the HTC keyboard input takes precedence, but can't find a way to switch it off.
I'm going to try the keyboard on other devices to see if it works, but in the meantime I'd be grateful for any advice...!

(I have now found the sort-of solution

It turns out Bluetooth keyboards on Android need an app to go between, it's called
BlueInput and is a clunky, buggy and slow little so-and-so... It created mayhem on
my phone, I have had to reset my phone to factory settings, starting all over again..
I'm not at all happy, as you can imagine... The keyboard works with other devices
perfectly well (I've tested on iPhones and iPads) but with Android smartphones you
really have a problem. I'm going to give this keyboard as a present to a friend who has
an iPad, and I'm glad to be rid of it. Next, I'm going to try a usb keyboard. They say
it works.
