I have a Galaxy S8, and use the Whatsup. Recently it has been making calls in the app (regular and video) on it's own without me noticing, then when my friend tells me "hey you called me" I checked my call log and nothing was there. I thought at first maybe it was a butt dial, but I feel like it would show in the log if that was the case. I did recently download a new phone update, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. My research so far hints that I may have a type of Malware. Is that possible? Would it affect WhatsApp like this then not show in my call log? Any and all help figuring out this problem would be amazing. Thank you!

I moved this from the general Android Apps forum to the WhatsApp forum, for more specific traffic.

1. It's most likely number spoofing. Some telemarketer is using a robodialer, and they choose numbers at random - that are the same area code (and usually the same business office) that they're calling. (You're more likely to answer if you think it may be someone you know, and you just don't know their number.)

2. Even if WhatApp did make calls, they wouldn't show up in your Phone log, they'd show up in WhatsApp.

I doubt it's malware - why would even a virus script kiddy waste time writing something like that? They do it for the effect, and they have to see the effect. Your phone calling your friend is like their casting an empty bottle into the sea - they'll never know if it did anything - and that's not why people write malware.
