Android messages freezes phone

I had to delete it but whenever I receive a text I get a message saying messages is needing notification access. I get they same message for any message app and all I do is tap the notification and toggle it, no problem. When I tap it with AM it starts to open it and freezes for about ten seconds then and me to either force close the app or send a report.

I even tried going through settings and everything is toggled correctly.

Since Android messages is such a general search I got tons of responses that has nothing to do with my issue.

Any ideas as to the issue? Yes, I have cleared all cache and uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
