I've been using Android for awhile now, since 1.6. I've never had a problem with the stock MP3 player grouping albums correctly. Now, out of the blue, when ever I put compilation or multi CD albums on my SD card, I end up with around 7 to 12 albums out them. 1 CD can turn to 10 albums with one song in each. It never happened before 2.2. Android 2.1 and below never had this problem (Atleast I never had). I just got the Photon, and the phone itself is freakkin sweet, but this is a problem happened on my Optimus too. I've tried searching the forums, but no avail. I just want to see if anyone found a simple or even complex solution to this ed problem. An awesome phone hampered by a remedial MP3 player.

PS: I didn't put this in the general thread section because as I stated before, some brands I never had such a problem with this.

Yeah, that's a tough one. I tried renaming music files and it still shows as unknown on my phone. The stock music player is garbage for mp3s. Have u ever tried Cubed Music Player? It is by far the best free player I've come across, and maybe my favorite app ever. Its very smart at grouping ur music and getting album artwork that no other player could get. Give it a shot.

I use tuenup to fix my id3 tags. TuneUp | Fix Mislabeled Song Info, Add Album Art & More Works pretty well, but you need to use iTunes (which I abhor). also finds and kills duplicates, adds album art, etc.

Does not directly address your question, but you might want to download a trial, clean up a couple of compilation alubms and see if it fixes your issue.

Without finding the "Solution" I found a work around. I just changed the "Album Artist" category to the same person, regardless if it is or not. It allows the system to group it perfectly, and it doesn't affect any of the information "WE" see on the phone. It shows up the way I wanted and grouped perfectly. I just wish I didn't have to go into my music folder and change all this stuff, makes it a hassle to use the MP3 player :-\
