I have been looking for a very long time now for an MP3 or PMP player along the lines of Zune and iPods that run on Android. I do not want a phone! Just and mp3 or pmp player. I found one that was for sale in an article and I cannot find it now. Also, I do not want a massive tablet thing, something similar in size to the leading media players.

Anyone have input?
Thank you in advance!

You can try an Archos tablet. Besides that, there aren't a lot of iPod/Zune type Android devices out there without getting a phone.

Keep in mind, you may not get all the advantages of Android, specifically the Market (and the apps that make Android stand on it's head while eating a cheeseburger). That's what makes Android and iPhone (with its App Store) as coveted as they are. Archos has its own proprietary market but most of what's in the Android Market won't be there (unless you install the Android Market hack).

That being said, why are you looking for an non-phone Android when an Android phone will give you everything and only need to carry one device? Not to mention an mp3 only device (like an iPod or Zune) will probably cost about the same thing as a phone? If *all* you want is an mp3 player, I'd check out Best Buy or Wal-Mart and see what they have by Creative, iRiver or something like that.

I say this with the best, most sincere motivation: an Android device that ONLY plays mp3's is a waste of money. Consider iRiver, Creative, Sony, etc.

Thanks for the input! I guess I agree, but while I don't have the money to pay for a continuous service from an Android phone, I was willing to make the one time purchase on an media player that has connectivity to the Android market! I probably will just hold off on getting anything for now!

I'm looking for the same thing -- my kids (and all my nieces and nephews) love playing games on my phone and tablet, but I need them for work and school. I would rather buy a pair of used Droids for the boys, root them and remove all access to the mobile network (they love my Droid, and I would like our oldest to have a phone, but neither of them need unlimited Internet access for $30/month, they can use our WiFi to download free games from the market.)

Other than what I just said . . . any suggestions?

I think you have a good idea about used phones. I have the Samsung Epic and I love it both as my phone as well as a PDA, MP3 player and a ereader and I think it is much nicer then the Ipod and has Flash. The only thing the Ipod/Ipad has on Android for me is they can stream video from Netflix and so far the Epic can't.

If I was to do away with cell service I would keep and use my Epic as I have for the past year as a PDA/ereader. I keep hearing about Rooting and I don't know what it is or how to do that but maybe I'll learn that here. Good luck.
