Android new boy needs advice

Hi, Ive just made the leap from a PC to a Tablet , Samsung Galaxy Note, It is great and I am finding it far easier to use, the problem I am having is transfering my windows files into the Polaris filing system. I have transfered all my folders onto a high powered memory stick to transfer them over and the Note wont recognise them. Any Ideas please?

Would placing the files in a drop box solve the issue.
