Android Nougat 7.0 vs Battery saver

I have noticed on my new Huawei P10 - Version Nougat 7.0 that whenever I put it on Batter Saver mode (not the Ultra saver mode) background apps and functions are being disabled, especially the email sync.
Whenever I open my email client (in this case a trial BlueMail and Typeapp) I am being asked to enable Sync; I click to enable but nothing happens. It keeps asking me to enable it and the whole syncing facility is staying all greyed out, i.e enabling is not working.
Then I go to settings/accounts and manually sync the accounts, it does sync but automatic sync is still greyed out on the top right corner.....

Is this a characteristic of the Android 7.0? If yes, what is the point of giving us the option to save battery?

Is there a solution to get around this by any chance?

Thank you.

The solution is to manage each app's battery usage manually or disable the battery saver. Can't have both, and yes, that is characteristic of N.
