Android Oreo in the UK - a tip and a question

I'm using a Pixel XL on the 3 network in the UK and am yet to receive 8.0. I've been checking for it every couple of days.

I popped an O2 pay as you go SIM into my phone this morning as I am considering changing networks and it notified me of 8.0 immediately. I took the SIM out again and the notification went away, but every time I put the O2 SIM back in the notification appeared again so I assume this means some networks get access to 8.0 first?

My question is do I need to do a FDR following the installation of Oreo or not as I read conflicting opinions on whether this is necessary? My phone seems to be running perfectly so I wouldn't want to do it unless it was necessary.

I ran all of the Android 8 betas without a factory restore. When I got the final of 8.0 I used if for a week without any problem. My nephew still hasn't done a factory restore and he hasn't had a problem. I did a factory restore last week just because I hadn't in a very long time. It runs fine now, too.
