Android OS battery usage is higher than screen usage?

My girlfriend just got a Galaxy SIII and LOVES it, but the battery life seems to be very sub par compared to my HTC One X, she barely gets through one day while I easily get through two full days, and I use mine a lot more than she uses hers.

When I went to check what was using her battery, and it showed that the android OS was using more than her screen was. She had her phone off charge for less than 7 hours with light use and was down to 1% left.

Ive done battery pulls and a factory reset already and neither seemed to help. There are no updates available for her phone either.

She is still within her 30 day window and Im just wondering if I should have her swap it out at the store or not?

I had the same problem for about a week when I first got my at&t gs3. The Android OS was using over 60 percent of the battery! It seemed to fix itself though when I restarted the phone. Now it seems to happen only about once a week.

If restarting it doesn't work though I would probably just swap it out.

Experimenting a little more I notice that the problem comes as a result of playing with the volume settings for some reason or another. Again, it seems to be corrected with a restart of the phone.

Thanks for the response, I had them swap out her battery and that seemed to help a bit. She is still only barely getting through a day, but is ok with that because she loves everything else about the phone haha

I've seen this problem on my phone and wondered what could be causing so much Android OS use. A restart does tend to fix it but I hope little things like this will be fixed over time. I was always no one had this problem since it wasn't talked about much.
