Android Pay/NFC/shut down issue

I decided to try out Android Pay and as you know, we must turn on NFC and enable lock screen security. Once I did this I found that the phone would go dormant moments after entering the lock screen code when using other apps. It appears there may be a conflict with the Android Pay app and the sensor that keeps the screen on. I removed Android Pay and disabled NFC for now, but I'd love to be able to use it in the future.. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

I have no problems with Android Pay, but I've used it on a Nexus 6P (my daily driver) and an ASUS ZenFone 2, not an S3. I suggested the cache partition wipe since, as you probably know, it's a reasonable thing to try as a general troubleshooting step. I'll have to defer to other members with an S3 for more detailed help--sorry!

No worries.. it's not as if my life won't function without Android Pay, LOL. Needless to say at some point it will be time to get a new phone which most likely won't have the problem with the Pay app.. I have a suspicion it's tied to Kit Kat or Samsung's UI.
