Android police Artem strikes again !!!

Not sure how many of you know Artem, I believe he owns Android police or works there. But every year he is famous for Pixel lag issues and this year is no different and he just started a Twitter thread. FWIW I don't have any issues but he is supposedly working with Google to investigate what's going on with his device and if it's more widely spread issue.

Anyone seeing similar issues? No issues on my 4 XL and 4.

Had my pixel since Wednesday and I have tons of apps and accounts, facebook, IG, Twitter, FB Messenger, Snapchat, linked in, Snapchat, 3 Gmail accounts and a couple of games and zerrrrro performance issues for me. Battery had also been better than my pixel 3 xl. I'm on the 4 xl and averaging 5 hours and 40 mins of screen on time with 2% battery left after 15 hours. I'm content so far.

Same here. I don't have Artem's lag problem but I would like to know what is causing it.

Not everyone sees these issues, and the likelihood of him getting so have flawed units is extremely remote as to be impossible. So running that through Occam's Razor, it's him.

Reading this my first thought was what would happen if a volunteer or any regular member here had this lag problem. There are many different things that could be tried not only to fix the problem but, most importantly, to understand what's going on. We all could have a field day trying to pin the cause!

It could be a hardware problem on a defective unit, a glitch in the software or some kind of conflict with third party apps or personal configurations. So many things to try and as far as I know Artem didn't say anything about what he did, short of sending a couple of logs to Google.

Android 10 came with a few bugs and some apps are still struggling to adapt to it. This includes some monitoring apps that run in the background, like Gsam, and I wonder if all this lag is caused by apps that he is restoring on every device he tests.

No lag issues with my P4XL. I did when I first brought the phone home and the Play Store took a while to load up. But after running all the updates and all, now it runs smooth. After the initial boot up, it's been great!

Definitely. He is famous for these. Still, I think it’s good that he socializes them in case it’s not just him. I also understand the instinct to question how prevalent his issues are. Several on the P3 were more common, though some were not.

To be fair, there is occasional lag. I have seen it when opening settings, and with a few apps. It's rare, but it happens. If you want to see some major lag that happens consistently go and open the list of apps optimized for battery usage. Now that's brutal lag and dropped frames. Mind you, overall I find the Pixel 4 XL to be a lot smoother than my Galaxy S10+ (not just because of the 90Hz display). It just seems better optimized even with the few issues compared to the S10+. Ironically, the S10+ does not have much lag on the aforementioned list of apps optimized for battery usage, though it shows signs of lag in so many other places.
