"Android System" Vs. "Android OS"

How are they different and what do they do. I generally find that "Android System" is the bigger battery hog. Today, for instance my phone was mostly idle all day and Android system used 42% while Android OS only used 13%.

Can anyone shed any further light on this?

They are different processes used by the OS. I'm not entirely sure what the differences are, but from what I can tell Android OS has more to do with the system's kernel than anything else. Android system on the other hand seems to be processes like GPS, settings, dev tools, themes, etc. According to the services report on GSam battery monitor at least...For me it's about even most of the time.

Do you have location settings/GPS on? That might be why the system is using a lot more battery than the OS.

No, GPS is not being used and location services are set to power saving. We'll see how it goes today when I'll be using the phone more.
