android tv remote app no longer available/functional on devices?

so...during the course of my attempting to set up netflix on my tivo stream 4k..I discovered the google made android tv remote app..no longer works on devices with pre-existing installed instances of said app.

some poking about...revealed they no longer even offer it for download.

can anyone recommend a suitable android tv remote app I can use with my tivo stream 4k?

...so how do i access this on a samsung sm-t290 tablet?

and now I have a new problem..cannot get my samsung tablet to connect through devices..so I went and removed it from home...now I have the below images.

NEITHER the app nor built in function will connect...HELP!

Have you checked to see if you can add it to your quick settings menu? I found it on my Tab S7 and have used it.

..it was NOT there until after I went into the google tv app on a lark, wherein I found a remote app button in the google tv app. used it, paired to my tivo.

then I got it into my head to check to see if this might not have added that function to quick settings and saw the button for that was now present.

still no idea why I cant control it through google home(which alot of guides say I should be able to) but I'm considering this solved.

It's fairly prominent for me, up by the power button...

of course only after I start tapping at the remote...does it offer the keyboard button.
