Android Update 5.1.1 will not "install"

I have two Galaxy 5 phones - one downloaded and installed the AT&T update fine. The other downloaded the update, then rebooted to install, which it started to do, but five or so seconds into it, it stopped and went directly to the home page with no install. OF course, now I have to wait another 24 hours to re-try the download (and whoever came up with THAT i24-hour thing should be fired). Is there a way to just directly install what was downloaded without having to wait the half-hour or so it took to download?

I had the same problem with mine. Downloaded the update. It failed to install. Waited 24 hours, tried again. Failed again. Then someone suggested setting your date ahead 48 hours to get the update immediately. That worked but the update failed again and now it says I must wait 72 hours to try again. Frustrating.

I have seen so many with AT&T having issues. Some have to clean stuff off their phone, etc.

You can try to wipe the cache partition first. Personally, with what I have seen, I would back up what I need, do a reset, then do the update.

Wipe cache partition, free up 6.25+GB of internal memory, remove SD card if applicable, set date ahead and try again. This worked for me after several unsuccessful attempts.

OK I gave it one more shot. Set date forward, cleared cache and uninstalled the Facebook app. (Facebook is a very large app). That gaveme 5.58 of free space. Ran update again. Success!!
