Android voice mail notification

When I recieve a voice mail the android reminder pops up. Is there a way to turn that off completely and have visual voice mail take over?

Talking about the notification bar at the top? if so just go into visual voicemail then menu button for settings and then change your notifiaction options

You have to activate visual voicemail so it takes over your regular voicemail service.
