Android vs iphone favoritism

Posting here cuz I dunno where exactly it belongs and I'm always here as well;) that being said, I see this absurd amount of favoritism with iOS that people don't even realize. For instance, upon reading the review from tech crunch about the new incredible, they list a "con" as the screen being too small still for some at "4".
I hope they remember that when the new iPhone drops and if it even comes with the rumored 4" screen, it better be listed as a con!
This all goes together with the "its fantabulously new and innovative when iOS finally does something that android has been doing for years" argument.
Just say in.

Yes...I'm not trying to be unbiased though... TC should try and hide their inner fanboy a little better than you or me...I would hope.

Damn near every tech and news website is biased towards Apple. Been that way for a few years now. Its like the car mags. They always pick BMW as the winner in comparisons.

I/O shut a lot of them up this year. Google really nailed it with the Nexus 7, 4.1, and Glass. The Nexus Q is at least interesting and no Apple fan was ready for the "made in the USA" angle. Apple fans had to play up iOS 6 features that Android has had for years, like Navigation. They didn't have a lot to celebrate, although we haven't seen all of iOS 6 yet I think. Still, it felt like WWDC was introducing stuff from last year where Google moved the ball forward.

I may be wrong, but I think that it is easier for them to stand behind the iPhone because it is just one phone. With android there are so many choices, which one do you stand behind? And for how long?

They have to be. If they say anything bad about Apple then they're banned from any Apple events in the future. Websites/blogs/news papers rely upon getting the news as it's happening and being banned from Apple press releases is a big deal to them.

There's a genuine fear within the industry that any hint of negativity toward Apple will stop the invites from coming.

I got to hand it to Apple, they're brilliant marketers and marketing bullies. They've honed this to perfection.

There is this too. This is a HUGE part of why there are so many people that are so biased toward apple.

I like to think I remain very objective when it comes to mobile tech. I mean cmon, I own a Galaxy Nexus and a 3rd generation Apple iPad, and I consider that combination the absolute best you can get right now in each of those market shares. Sure, the nexus 7 is looking very promising, but there is still that glaring issue of the android marketplace still being very flakey for tablets. Much better than it was a year ago, but still no where near as robust as the apple app store. I've got a Mobile line for work that is due for an upgrade and I've pretty much concluded I'm going to use that upgrade for the iPhone 5 when it comes out just so I have a new toy to play with.

With android you get new phones coming out almost every month. Some are high end, some are low end. Some are running ICS, some are running Gingerbread. The resolution and aspect ratio of this phones screen is completely different to that phone.

Bottom line: it's easy to have favoritism toward something that is consistently good than it is to favorite something that is Mind blowingly good sometimes while being absolutely terrible other times.

Not saying your wrong or anything, but the obvious answer is the Nexus line when it comes to Android (which is software). The newest and greatest of Android will always be shown off on a Nexus device. The gNex has been out for nearly 8 months and is still the phone the newest handsets are compared to. These days that's impressive. The gNex will get (at the very least) JB OTA, so Google stands behind the line (we'll leave VZ out of it). The dev community is ridiculous in comparison to other phones as well. Just did a quick search...first article that came up. Apple is just amazing at marketing and they make a good product. Solid combination for the masses.

If I wanted icons plastered all over my homescreen, I could leave my app drawer open alla time. That and the puny screen, no thanks.

I can understand that. But some won't. I believe many identify with Android the operating system versus those who identify with the iPhone as a physical product. Even though the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone, it's hardware is surpassed by other Android devices running older software. I think that is where it becomes dicey for some. The latest iPhone will have the latest version of iOS and the best hardware in the line guaranteed. I don't think that IPhones are any better or worse than Android devices. But Android presents an interesting quandary as to which phone is the flagship. If any of this makes any sense.

Definitely agree regarding how people identify the respective products/OS's. I have to somewhat disagree regarding the hardware of the Nexus. It was cutting edge when it was released, with exceptions being the camera and an older but very capable GPU. Again 8 months in cell tech is a long time to still be a player. The OMAP4 processor was definitely chosen by Google for ICS (and JB being somewhat incremental), not an afterthought.

Regarding your point about the iPhone having the latest and greatest "Apple" hardware and software upon release [for the year]. While that may be true for Apple, it's not true in terms of the other handsets released during that year. It would not be compared to later phones if it wasn't for the huge sales/customer base. It must be compared. Such is the nature of the beast. No offense and I certainly don't define a person by their preferences per se, but the fact that Apple guarantees nobody will have a better Apple product than yours for "a year" tends to attract a certain type of person. That's a huge selling point for Apple in my opinion, even more so than "the experience" I always hear mentioned. Of course, I know plenty of great people using Apple products. Also plenty of reality TV loving wannabe superstars lol. They are excellent at marketing and they sell an image. Not to mention a quality product. Just not my cup o' tea.

Of you look at ipods there are many based upon itunes and those several music players killed walkmans and zunes. Having on device to focus on wasn't always the case.

Personally I don't hate USA company Apple, in fact I like that we dominate. I just don't prefer ios to android. And their following with their reasons are somewhat humorous.

Responding to your reference to the iPod, those devices albeit different in features and storage space, offered a consistent experience. That's not really seen in Android. And for some that is what makes Android so great. But for others it makes it more difficult or confusing to get behind it. It's kind of the Walmart theory. A one stop for everything you need or want. There is no reason to explore elsewhere. Android gives you options, ability to customize, explore. Apple doesn't. But some of us like that. When I purchase apps, music, movies, books, magazines, etc. I know where I am going every time. That makes consumers who are less educated on tech and multimedia services more comfortable. After immersing oneself in the "walled garden" for so long It becomes a comfortable and familiar place. Then you add other devices like an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and MacBook and everything connects seamlessly then you have your "Walmart". That's what we buy into. I actually enjoy that, but I can also see the limitation. Android is a superior OS that is seen on superior devices. But the "Walmart" mentality is stronger and that's why you see tech journalist favoring Apple. Even the best of us get caught up in it.

Perhaps the Nexi could benefit from a singular experience

Prior to the Nexus 7 tablet (and rumors of multiple Nexi handsets this fall) it certainly was a singular (vanilla) Android experience. One a year and/or with the newest OS. I hope Google makes a "cheap" 10" tablet. A 7" just isn't enough real estate over my phone, and I can't justify the cost of a unsubsidized 10" when I have a nice laptop.

You're right...I remember that from when I used to read Car & Driver.

Agreed.

A large portion of it is so that people can say "Yeah, I have an iPhone." As a tech nerd I do try to give all new tech a chance. I think Apple usually makes great products that last but as a company, I hate them. I do try my hardest not to be biased in my opinions. At the same time, I can't have a discussion with a fanboy (from any OS) whose opinion only consists of "They're just better." I tend to walk away from those conversations.
