Android Wear on iPhone 5S - "Google Now requires an active internet connection." ??

I'm using AndroidWear on an iPhone 5s with a Huawei Watch.

Google Now is "on" but gives the error "Google Now requires and active internet connection"

Using a gmail account which is tested ok.

Any advice appreciated.
