Anker just announced a new "Super Fast Wireless Charger" for S9, S9+, Note 8 & iPhoneX.

Problem is it takes around 2:40 - 3hrs for this "Super Fast Wireless Charger" to fully charge the phones.

Given a fast wire charger can charge a phone in 1:15hrs this seems very slooooow.

I understand wireless is a little more convenient to place your phone on a pad/stand if it it not overly sensitive to the positioning and it won't where out the connector port, but almost double the time to charge?

Also, the Fast wire charger and cable from Samsung is much cheaper to purchase and I can use the phone more while it charges by wire, at my desk, on the couch or even lying in bed, just pick up the phone with wire attached and use it.

Am I missing something about the value proposition of wireless charging? I love the idea of wireless charging but it seems to have a ways to go in order to make it really valuable to an end user?

really, the best feature of wireless charging is the convenience of wireless charging in cars and businesses such as restaurants. some bars and restaurants are putting them in their tables. honestly my Samsung fast charger charges my s9 pretty fast also

Wireless chargers generate heat, both in the pad (which rises up to the phone) and in the phone's charging receiver. Charging it at the normal fast wired rate wouldn't be too healthy for the phone. (And the amount of charge that can bu pumped into the phone depends on the charge receiver in the phone, as long as the charging pad supplies enough. If it supplies more, the phone simply ignores the extra.)

Right, using the wireless built-in to restaurant and bar tables is a pretty good application and is useful. Spending $40-$80 on a personal wireless charger that takes 2 1/2 hrs to charge when a fast wire charger takes 1:15 hrs to charge. It is though for me to justify the wireless.

The Samsung Fast Wireless charger had a fan built into it. I have not noticed any additional heat while on it. Aftermarket fast wireless chargers may be a problem.

It depends on your use habits. I sit at a desk at my job 85% of the time. I have a wireless charger stand on my desk which it keeps the phone at 100% percent for me throughout the day, and keeps the phone upright so it is easy for me to glance over at it and see notifications (vs laying flat on desk). For the dozen (or 2 dozen) times per day I pick up my phone to check a notification, respond to a text, answer a phone call etc., the convenience of not having to constantly unplug-replug the phone into a charging cord is totally worth it.

For a short time I had to be on call 24/7. During this time I moved the wireless charger up from the kitchen to the bedroom nightstand. Same deal. If I needed to check a text that comes in at night or answer a phone call, no need to fumble for the cord to plug back in.

Your use case might be totally different, such as you are nowhere near a charger for huge portions of your day, and have only a short time to charge up. Say when you get back to the office or get home before you head out with friends. And so you will want the fastest charging you can get for a quick top off.

At night, I'm not worried about how long it takes for my phone to charge, so dropping it on my wireless charging stand where I can have a clock visible is handy.

Wireless charging isn't for everyone, but it is convenient for quite a few people (and will probably start being talked about more now that Apple finally jumped on board).

Right. As well having the phone on the wire charger and proped up to watch movies works too but the wireless stand is handy.
