Ever since the last update my email notifications show the body of the email in my notifications list. Not only does that make the list annoyingly long, i don't want what is said in emails displayed to whoever happens to pick up my phone. i want just a simple notification that i have an email. That's it. Is there any way to turn this feature off or an app that does it?

Not that I'm aware of...

If the whole "I don't want others reading my email" is a big deal to you, you can either disable email notifications altogether (a bit extreme...) or add security to your lockscreen, such as a PIN or password, which prevents the notification bar from being accessed until the screen is unlocked.
Not that I don't see your point about privacy, but if you don't have security on the lockscreen, anyone can just pick up your phone and go right to the email app and read anything in there, so what's the big deal if a few lines are shown if they swipe the notification panel instead? Of course, I keep my screen locked with PIN as well, so no one can just "pick up" my phone and get access to that either.

There may be some notification bar apps that are more customizable? I don't know, never looked into that.

i do of course have a lockscreen. lockscreens are a moot point when people routinely use your phone for various things. There are things that go on in peoples lives and conversations that take place about those things that make it absolutely inappropriate for people to be able to see e-mail responses and we should have control over that rather than being forced to never allow anyone to use our phones
