Hi all. Thought I would post my experiance from Sprint about moving over from a Palm Pre to the HTC Hero!

Just got my Hero from Sprint yesterday after using the Pre for about 6 months. Kept running into issues with the slider on the Pre as well as the power button so I complained about it (was about to be on my 4th Pre). Gave the service line a call first to see if it could be resolved over the phone. Turns out that I needed to go into a service center to have it looked at and basically confirmed that it wasn't working correctly. So, I hop in my car and drive over and talk to someone there. They say the only thing that they can do would be to exchange my Pre for a new one (not refurb) or switch me over to the Pixie. Didn't want to get another Pre as I just wasn't having good luck with them and the Pixie just wasn't doing it for me at all. They also said I could call the service line and talk to someone about having it swapped out and possibly having more of a selection. Gave the line a call again and talked to someone who let me know that basically it was a managers decision to swap phones out for different models. So back in the store I go and got to speak with the manager. He gave me the same offer about the Pre and the Pixie. Told him that the service rep on the phone made it clear that I am not limited to those two phones by policy, that its just the managers decision and that I dont want to have to cancel my service just because of the device. So he asked what phone I was looking at, I told him the Hero and he grabbed one for me. He swapped everything out and I was out of there and done with the whole ordeal in about an hours time. So thats my story.

So far I am extremely impressed by this phone and how well it works. I do miss the ability to run multiple apps at once, but when you did on the Pre it really showed after the 2nd or 3rd app. The only other thing that I miss about my Pre is that it would sync with iTunes, which was pretty awesome. Have to find another way to manage music on my system so I can migrate it over to the Hero.

So yea, so far really impressed with how the Hero performs and I am looking forward to seeing whats going to come out next for this awesome little device and getting some great info on the forums. :)

Sailing MediaSync synchronizes playlists, music, and podcasts from iTunes and photos from iPhoto or Aperture on the Mac or Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop Album SE on Windows. it is free for basic use, a paid version allows for intelligent updates, which is much faster

For the Hero you will need to use 'USB Storage mode'

I don't miss running multiple apps at once since the phone switches between them so quickly. I am so much more impressed with the Hero than I was the Pre...the build quality alone makes Palm look second rate here.

I too just made a switch from the Pre to the Hero. So far I am pleased, but the virtual keyboard is taking some getting used to, and I keep finding myself swiping the applications off of the screen. In the long run I think it will be a worth while change.

I made the switch too from a Pre to a Hero. LOVE it. Still getting used to the keyboard on the Hero, but the Pre I couldn't even hit the right key on an actual physical keyboard. Sense UI is stunning

Yes, thank you for the Sailing MediaSync option. Going to give that a try when I get home. So after the 2nd day of using my Hero, I am positive that this was a switch for the better. I was originally thinking of getting this phone over the Pre and wow, its kind of cool how things come full circle.

Was wondering if there was a better Facebook option than the Facebook Widget? I am noticeing that I cant access certain features of Facebook like seeing a full activity readout of my profile.

Also are there any good docking stations that anyone would recommend for the Hero? Had a touchstone for my pre and would like something where I can just set it in the dock for the night to charge?

As far as I know the Facebook option in the Android Marketplace is the only option for facebook.. I could be wrong though, but I'm in the same boat the app is very limited.

You could try the Facebook Mobile site for better access. I believe its x.facebook.com or mobile.facebook.com. or just go to facebook.com and it will redirect you.

I am another pre uaer, that is seriously about to make the jump to the hero. Honestly, the only thing holding me back is the price. I have been lucky in that my pre has never had an issue at all, so I can't swap it out. Trying to come up with about $450 to buy just the phone is a killer.

I'm with you on that end... my Pre has gotten out of control with the lag. Today alone, I had 3 "Too many cards" messages with NO cards because of an incoming call. So after dealing with CS for Sprint the best they could do was a $50 price deduction for a swap. So coming up with $50 off of the Hero's full price will be painful, but needed and worth it. If I can't find an affordable one on ebay or craigslist first...

I'm a former Pre user that made the switch to the Hero yesterday. I had the Pre since launch day and like it, but just got tired of the "Too Many Cards" message thanks to the memory leak issues with the WebOS. So I contacted Sprint to see if there's anything they can do for me, and they offered me a Hero at the online price. So I got it yesterday and really like it so far.

Another former Pre user here as well. The dealbreaker for me was the lag and to many cards. When it got to the point I was missing calls because of the lag it had to go. I have had my Hero only for a few days but it was certainly a good move. I absolutely love the customization of the Hero. I already have it flashed to Freshrom and am loving it. Wireless tether is also a huge bonus since that is something they still can't get right on the Pre either, $15 for mytether was a waste. I am still getting used to the keyboard though, still making a lot of mistakes. I actually had not real complaints with the Pre keyboard, I was very proficient with it.

What did you say to Sprint to get them to offer you the Hero? Was it at a store or from CS? I'm ready to switch, but because I have a business line for each of my phones, they're saying I've got to pay full price.

How is your battery life on the Hero compared to the Pre?

I contacted ecare and told them about my frustrations and how much of an inconvenience the Pre has caused me the past few days, mainly due the too many cards and not being able to use some apps because of it. Since I've been with Sprint for over 10 years, I asked if they can do something for me. So they replied and offered me any phone I want at online price. So as soon as I read that email, I was on my way to the Sprint store and bought a Hero. I paid full price at the store, had it billed to my account, and ecare credited my account to get it down to online price.

So far battery life is a little better than my Pre. I can't really give a good measurement yet, only because I'm on my 3rd day with the Hero.

Make sure you install the update. It fixes some battery life problems.

I get 14-18 hours out of mine.

As a former Pre user and I think the HTC Hero is better! I don't miss my Pre. Everything I missed in the Pre I have it in the Hero! I've only had the Hero for two days and all I can say WOW! I rushed and bought the Pre but now I have widgets, scenes, bar code scanner. Pre=synergy or Hero=customization for a "techy" at heart, Android wins!

Go to Settings - About Phone - System Updates.

There was a small firmware update to fix a few things like "awake" time.
