Happens with various people i speak to. Using a P20 Pro and has occurred before and after the latest update. Haven't had this before with other phones so dont believe it to be the network. Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks

The same people all the time? Then it's probably something with your carrier. (Or your carrier's connection to their carrier.)
Random people? Then it could be your phone. How to fix it? If you bought the phone from your carrier, ask them to fix it. If you bought it from some other company, see if you can get a refund.
