Does anyone run an anti virus app on their phones?

No. Never had a problem. Only download from the Play Store.

Not after I figured out none of the apps I always use have any viruses. I stopped using those years ago and just use common sense if I download a new app from playstore... only highly rated apps, and apps that are download a LOT by a lot of people... must meet both these, not just one.

Not really. Since Android uses Linux Kernel its hard to near impossible to get a virus. However, Malware is a different story. But honestly the easiest way to deal with Malware is to just download apps from the Google Play Store or Amazon Store (reputable distributors of apps).

If you're really concerned, I'd suggest Lookout Security. It's been a real go to for a lot of folks in terms of protecting your device.

OK thanks.
I've been getting weird email bounce backs like maybe my email's been hacked and thought maybe it was from the phone. Only thing I've put on it is a few downloaded ring tones and I scanned them with my laptop AV before loading them up.
In the meantime I'm running an AV scan on my laptop and checking for malware.

I stop using Anti-Virus ever since I left Windows desktop.

I've read it does more harm than good on android.

I use Norton Security mainly because I use it on my PCs and it includes licenses for phones too. I primarily use it for the lost phone features. I'm not really concerned about viruses because, as of others have said, the chances are slim that you will pick up a virus via the Play store. From what I understand, even malware is screened out by Google for the Play store (or something like 99% of it is caught?).

Norton has some other features too... it will flag an app that is going to use a lot of personal data. It also has some backup functionality (I don't use it).

Just remember that security holes will come up regardless of whether or not your are using anti-virus software (e.g. stagefright). Common sense is the best protection. Don't open things from unknown sources is probably one of the key behaviors.
