I would probably say no. If you stick to the main app stores like Google Play, Amazon, and Samsung's (and even better if you stick solely to Play), you should be fine. Google even runs regular scans for any malicious code in apps install from outside sources, so I think for the most part Android is safe. There are occasional cases in which some malicious app somehow makes it through Google's security checks and the apps are downloaded en masse, but the Android community is pretty quick to get the news out and anti-virus devs are quick to patch the issue
