Is it necessary to have an antivirus app on my phone? I downloaded avg but might delete it unless its honestly beneficial to have. Anyone else using it? Thanks!

We have about 40 smartphones in our office, not a single one has antivirus software and not a single one has ever had an issue with a virus, trojan, spyware, etc... but no one in our office that I am aware of downloads stuff from (or rather did since it was shut down this morning) AppPlanet or the like, so your mileage may vary. Although we have had a few people download apps with push ads that we have had remove, but they have never had any real usage problems from them, they have been easy to remove, and I don't know that antivirus would have stopped or detected anything wrong anyway.

It isn't a bad idea, it will use some system resources up, but look at your usage... If you only run stock, only download reputable apps from the Play Store, and stay away from "questionable" websites, you are most likely fine without it. Now, if you download pirate apps and watch porn all day on your phone, I would suggest getting some AV software, IMMEDIATELY! :p

Keep the downloads to mainstream stuff on the Play Store and you should be good. No real need for anti-virus.
