any cut ?

hello all,

I wanted to know if there is a way through "any cut" to make a shortcut of a bookmark?

I have a page that i frequent (my sons hockey team page) but I want to try to make a shortcut icon for it so i can just hit that instead of going to the brower first and then to the bookmarks to select it.

does anyone know if you can make your own short cut like this? and if so how would i do it?

No need to use any cut, just go into your browser bookmarks and long press on the one you want. A menu will pop up with one of the options being "add shortcut to home screen"

Yea, in Launcher Pro and ADW, you can long-press on the shortcut on your home screen, and it'll let you edit the name and icon. Probably can't do that in the stock TouchWiz.

I just installed it to test it out. It does not seem to see any of my shortcuts to edit them. Even ones added with it. Therefore, I am unable to even try to change the icons.

If you're willing to try out a different launcher, I'd recommend trying ADW as well. ADW is totally free, no disabled features, and while it may not have quite the bells and whistles of LP, it's very fast, clean and light on resources. To me, that's what a launcher should be.

I longed pressed on the home screen, selected Shortcuts, then Bookmark, and then one of my bookmarks (ESPN in this case) and it used the actual ESPN icon. Other bookmarks, such as Facebook and AndroidCentral used the generic bookmark with the star in the middle.

So maybe it depends on the website as to what bookmark is used.

yes you can still use touchwiz, simply hit your home icon on your soft keys and it will allow you to switch in between launchers.

You can have multiple launchers installed at the same time. Unless you set one of them as a default, every time you hit the home button you'll get a popup asking you which one you want to complete the action with. As far as pay vs free I can't recall specifically. I'll test it out and get back to ya.

Don't forget about Home Switcher for an easy way of switching launchers and setting your default home launcher.

Interesting that it can't be done in LP. ADW can, in fact, change the icon, you just have to long-press on the shortcut on your home screen and a window pops up to edit the custom shortcut. You just click on the icon in the window, and it'll let you choose a theme icon or an image from your gallery to use as the icon.

Sorry if someone's already mentioned this.

In Launcher Pro ..
Long press on home screen, select Shortcuts, then Bookmark.
After picking the bookmark you want to add, you should be presented with a screen to rename the icon if you wish, as well as click on the icon that was chosen to change it. ..

Of course, you have to have an icon already downloaded and stored in an area that the Gallery has visibility to.



Now, the difference I see with ADW, is that I don't see a way to "edit" the icon once it's been created. But, it's simple enough to just delete it, then re-create it with the icon you wish it to have.

Right. I was just adding the shortcut, then trying to change the icon like you can with the dock in LP.
