so i am with at&T and i have good service with them in my area so i would rather not switch. i own an iphone 4 and blackberry bold 9000 i like to switch phones regularly and love all platforms i have an unlocked mytouch 3g but it is dated and would love a new high level android device for AT&T. My question is will at&t ever warm up to android and can i expect to see a decent device on AT&T in the near future? unfortunately i missed out and didn't have the money for the N1 with AT&T bands before they stopped carrying it.

Does the dev version of the N1 have AT&T or tmobile 3g bands? or can you still choose? thanks for the help.

o and btw not too big of a fan of the captivate touchwiz bothers me and i would like to have a device that i do not have to root but it looks like i might have to go this route.

I've been almost exactly where you are right now.

The answer to the question above is absolutely not, for as long as they have iPhone exclusivity. They will invest in WM7 phones, but I personally think that entire OS is going to be a real disappointment and failure (unfortunately).

Until we see a Verizon or TMobile Apple product, any Android offering from ATT will be 2nd tier at best. I've used the Captivate; it is a tier below the Droid 2, Incredible and definitely the Droid X for UI, quality feel, reception quality etc.

As long as you get good tower service from Verizon in your area, make the switch with confidence.

Yea i hear ya im debating it a lot im rele hoping exclusivity ends but who knows we shall see

Well how long have you used the Captivate? I don't have any issues with my captivate as for reception quality and the quality of the feel of the phone. I dont have a problem with touchwiz *besides it being a bit too colorful*.. I dont really have anything bad to say about my captivate. In terms of feel it is a very light weight phone, comfortable to use and over all better reception compared to my last 3x bbs that I have used *8300, 8310 and 9000*. How is the Captivate a tier below Motorola and HTC devices? Actually the Samsung Galaxy S line phones *Captivate, Vibrant, Epic 4G and Fascinate*, in terms of gaming are blowing HTC and Motorola out of the water.. I have heard problems with quality issues on both HTC and Motorola, so that is another story.

As for the comments is Att has been holding Android back but that is starting to change because for low end, att has the Backflip *motorola*, htc aria *awesome little phone*, Mid Range I would give it to the Sony Xperia and High End the Captivate. iPhone 4 and BlackBerry Torch are the 2 top models that Att is pushing heavily right at the moment but once Verizon gets the iPhone, I have a feeling att will be starting to push more android and even push the bb platform even harder.

HTH,

i did end up purchasing a captivate today.

but personally love the build quality of the droid 1 and just the UI but i will just use launcher pro plus or end up flashign a vanilla rom was just curious what was down the pipe.

the backflip is great for kids but i want something good and yes the captivate has an amazing gpu. the aria is nice but just wish htc put a 3.7" screen on it.

im hoping verizon gets the iphone so ATT will continue to allow better android devices.

It really is a shame that the Desire HD doesn't use american 3G bands. It almost makes me shed a tear. I still don't understand why HTC hasnt developed a GSM Evo sans 4G......
