Any good car mount suggestions for the G4?

In addition to the car mounts I also use Car Home Ultra and love it! I set it up only to come on when power is connected and it sees the bluetooth connection from my car. When I turn off the engine the program exits. Been using it for years and love it! I miss the days when there used to be a car dock program included with the phones.

Do magnetic-style holders mess with the internal compass? I would assume so.

I'm hoping to find a car holder that mounts in the CD-player slot (not to the dash or glass), and can fit a G4. I was leaning towards a clamp-style mount for the phone, not magnetic. It seemed simpler, maybe more secure, and could also hold my wife's iPhone 5S.

I was looking at the Koomus CD-Air:

But one CD-Air review using for a G3 said it didn't fit all that securely, and they suggested the Koomus CD-Eco instead, which apparently held the G3 better:

I have never tried the eco version, but the air has been great for me. It holds the g4 fine. No slippage, and has never fallen out. This is both naked and with a versus case. I highly recommend it for the g4.

I wouldn't try it with a otter box or anything that thick. My old phone was a HTC DNA which I had a otterbox on. It started out holding it fine, but got to a point I had to take off the outter rubber cover so it would hold.

I'll add some pics later.

Great info, thank you!

I actually ordered the Eco last night. For now, I'll be using it with my S3. If I buy the G4 again, I'll post an update on how the Eco holds it. I was using a Spigen Slim case with my first G4, so just a minimal-style case, nothing bulky.

Compared with the Air, the Eco looks like it might have more overhang from the clips at the edges of the screen, potentially making it difficult to reach things at the edge of the screen.

The benefits I saw to the Air were:
- It has a latch to lock/unlock the tabs from the CD player slot.
- The Air has sliding clips to hold the phone, rather than pivoting clips. So you'll get the same potential screen overhang no matter how wide your phone is. With the Eco, there might be more overhang on a narrower phone.

Quick update, it works great! I'm posting from the mobile app, so not sure how well this will work, but here's my attempt at attaching a few pics.

Sequence of the pics:

1. Before putting the metal insert in.
2. Back cover off, metal insert below.
3. Metal insert attached to the back (insert is adhesive)
4. After putting the cover back on.
5. Magnet is strong!
6. Yep, it'll work.

I just ordered the iOttie "easy one touch" ( http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...hawk-future-ca-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4526247 ), and I'll post a little review once I've received and installed it.

What I like about it is that I don't have to mess with the case at all (no magnet, etc.), it shows the phone in portrait (I liked the Spigen holder, but the phone would have been landscape), and it looks like it will be easy to put the phone into the holder and take it out again.

Anyways, we'll see if it lives up to its reviews :)

I received this mount yesterday, http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...hawk-future-ca-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4540322 , and here's my first impressions after I mounted and used it today:

  • It seemed like the G4 (in a Spigen case) would not fit well within the clamps, but it's actually quite secure.
  • I love the quick phone placement / release mechanisms.
  • It said that I'd have to do just one click of the mount thingy for a windshield... that didn't work, and it came off after a few minutes. However, using the 2nd click setting (you'll know what I'm talking about when/if you buy it) worked just great -- it stayed on during my commute to work, and seems to be nice and secure.
  • The instructions were really tiny and hard to read, and not very helpful even once you could read them.
  • I tried doing a speaker-phone call at home (with the phone in the bracket), and it was clear enough... this is despite the fact that the rear facing speaker is sort-of up against the bracket.
  • With the phone fully seated in the bracket, there's no way you could charge the phone... but perhaps the phone can sit higher in the bracket? I'll have to try that outl.
